CarPaint Material Tutorial Part 1 (english)

Hello guys,

first of all i want to apologise if my english is not this good as you guess😁But I will do my best to explain to you, how to add CarPaint Materials to Assetto Corsa vehicles.

The condition to give a car a material effect like chrome, pearl or matte, you have to check the cars first for the shaderX to be "ksPerPixelMultiMap_damage_dirt" in 3DSimedit. Load the desired vehicle and give right-click on the paintjob, then Material.

We will take the Porsche as example:

In the panel for ShaderX, here you can see the right ShaderX is available for this car. Also you can see the name of the Material, which is for this car "EXT_Car_Paint". Copy this name, you will need this information in a few steps.

A list of car, where the Materials are possible will be find below later (WIP).

Now we have the condition to add some effects for this car, let keep on going.

In the main-folder of the desired car we create a folder named "extension".

In this folder we create a file named "ext_config.ini"

If the folder and the files is already in place, add the next steps to the file.

Open the ini-file with an editor and write in following lines:

[INCLUDE]
INCLUDE=common/materials_carpaint.ini

[DEFAULTS]
CarPaintMaterial = EXT_Car_Paint (paste the saved desired car Material known from the 3DSimedit)

[Material_CarPaint]
ClearCoatThickness = 0.50

[Material_CarPaint_Metal(select the effect you want to add)
Skins = default (paste the name of the desired skin-folder)

A list of avaiable effects:
Solid
Metallic
Pearl
Matte
Chameleon
Metal
RainbowChrome
Rainbow

There are 2 options to change the effects itselfs.
1. Change the standard effect, you will find them in ...assettocorsa\extension\config\cars\common\materials_carpaint.ini or

cope and paste the desired effect lines to your ini-file placed in the car-mainfolder/extension.

Lets see what the porsche looks like without effect:
Here now we have the ext_config.ini written like this:

The ClearCoatThickness changed the way, light will be absorted from below. I dont have a clue, that is what is written in the ReadMe file. With a higher number, the car gets darker. I will work here with standard of 0.50. The effect should been seen good, i hope.

The result will be:

When we will try to change solid to .....

Metallic

Pearl

Matte

Chameleon

Metal

RainbowChrome

Rainbow

I guess it is pretty clear, that these effect dont come so clear with an grey car paintjob. I just add a skin-folder named "default". The basic color of a car could be mostly easy changed by a desired coloured "metal_detail.dds". Other colors should make the effect more markable.

But so far, now you know how to add effects to car paintjobs.

In the part 2 tutorial, i will let you know, how to add the effect to textured paint jobs like you know from racecars.

For some questions you can contact me over facebook (fb.com) or with an email to lucianpaine@googlemail.com

Hope i could help so far and i wish you a pleasant car painting.
